Reading lichen was an outdoor workshop delivered in April 2022, aimed at engaging participants in a citizen science session where the observation of lichen is used as an indicator to assess air quality in the local context. Lichen is a symbiosis between a fungi and algae, and is able to grow almost anywhere.

Every type of climate has its own lichen. For instance, there are lichens that love nitrogen, whereas other lichens disappear when there is too much nitrogen in the air. The type of lichen that can be found in the surroundings unravels something about the specific environment.
