The Xinhua Community Festival is composed of three parts:
- Thematic forum: beneficial soil. Forum invites many relevant experts, practitioners, and activists in the community design area, to share their thoughts and insights, research results to the public. Guests are from Japan, Hong Kong and other cities of mainland China.
- Celebration: local lifestyle department. This includes the local flee market and an exhibition presenting nearly 100 contemporary practices and ideas of sustainable local lifestyle from different cities.
- Action week: sharing activity among participants and activists of different regional communities
The keyword of the event is “local”. Since 2018, the foundation of Big Fish, the local community design and organisation, the focus on local lifestyle, have been key point of interest in Xinhua District. This festival focus aim to showcase and celebrate every aspect of our local life.

This community festival is held by Xinhua Community Design Center, Big Fish Design Center, and is sponsored by the local government. It is an initiative to connect all the stakeholder involved in Xinhua community, but also a regular appointment once a year to invite community members and producers from other parts of China.
